In an interview with CBR, the legendary Jim Shooter was asked what specific details he could reveal about Doctor Solar, Man Of The Atom #1 prior to the release of the book from Dark Horse Comics. Shooter remarked, “In Doctor Solar’s own words: ‘I am the Master of the Unified Field. The God of Energy. The living embodiment of the power of the sun. The most powerful being in the universe, unless there is a God Almighty at the end of time, when all of reality collapses into a Singularity.’

“The same terrifying possibilities of cutting edge science that empowered Doctor Solar can also empower others, less well-intentioned – and that generates epic-scale super-hero action,” Shooter said. “We introduce one or more new super-powered enemies in each issue of the first story arc, including Leviathan, Moloch the Devourer, Surya and more. We even get a glimpse of Nuro, who people may remember from the original series.”

Empowered by a thermonuclear catastrophe, Doctor Solar discovers that he can control energy. Immeasurable strength is his at a whim. Power beyond imagination courses through his body.  But he knows that the same kind of science run amok that created him can also empower the wicked. In the aftershock of the cataclysm that created Doctor Solar, ripples throughout space time imbue one Whitmore Pickerel with the power to create life—which he uses to serve his selfish desires and reckless ambitions. His newly created being, Leviathan, invulnerable and immeasurably strong, clashes with the Man of the Atom in a fierce battle that ravages the city.  Meanwhile, for his personal amusement, Pickerel creates Glow, a living fantasy of unearthly charms . . . and deadly possibilities!
